Now, i realize that this isnt particularly music, but as it is something you will spend hours listening to, i will put it in here anyway. Dan Carlin does two distinct podcasts. One, Hardcore History, and the other, Common sense. i will give you a breif description of them (and even suggest a few episodes to entice you) so you have a solid understanding of what its all about.
Hardcore History (currently 49: 1-4 hour long episodes)
"In "Hardcore History" the very unconventional Dan Carlin takes his "Martian", outside-the-box way of thinking and applies it to the past. Was Alexander the Great as bad a person as Adolf Hitler? What would Apaches with modern weapons be like? Will our modern civilization ever fall like civilizations from past eras? This is a difficult-to-classify show that has a rather sharp edge. It's not for everyone. But the innovative style and approach has made "Dan Carlin's Hardcore History" a New Media hit."

Hardcore History is a podcast that focuses on (mostly) pre-modern era events in history. he doesnt just focus on any random thing though. instead, he will choose an event or piece of history that is usually......twisted. An event that has something about it, some perversion of nature or character, that it would be hard NOT to be interested in it. Dan Carlin is NOT A HISTORIAN, he will even tell you as much. He may not be a historian, but he certainly has great skill in painting a picture in your mind of how events in history must have looked, and he certainly has a nack for picking out the most twisted events you can imagine. check it out.
his shows can range in time from 30 minutes to about 5 hours. sometimes his shows will run several episodes long to cover a certain event. they are ALL good.
Suggested Episodes/Events:
Ghosts of the Ostfront -either torrent it, or pay for it, its worth every penny
Death Throes of the Republic
The Wrath of the Khans
Prophets of Doom
The Punic Wars -either torrent it, or pay for it, its worth every penny
The American Peril
Common Sense (currently 259: 1 hour long episodes)
Common Sense with Dan Carlin is an independent look at politics and current events from popular New Media personality Dan Carlin.
Reviews:
"Thinking, not blind opinion. This is neither left nor right...it's an intelligent, articulate, knowledgeable person talking to you as if you have a mind. If you do, listen and treat yourself! I wish there were more like this. Nice dry sense of humor too."

"This show isn't just good and entertaining, when you listen to it you feel it's important. Dan isn't arguing a liberal or conservative agenda, he's taking current issues and saying, "wait, what does this mean??" And often, you think "dang.. we all should have thought of that..."

Common Sense is the other side of Dan Carlin's Podcast that i have only just gotten into. Having listened to just 10 episdoes, i feel like i have had my eyes opened to what is happening in our contry. i have been apathetic to our government for most of my life. listening to this has prompted me to start getting involved in what is happening to America. I would say that, even if you dont give a shit about american polotics, events, etc, this show will still be pretty informative. It features intelligent discussion on current events, and even interviews with presidential candidates and other important minds on politics. its a great show.
Suggested Episodes/Events:
Put Up or Shut Up
The Bitter Harvest of Fear
The Very Velvet Fist
Tyranny of the Unwise
Fearsome Safty
You can find the episodes on itunes or visit his website. you can google "dan carlin" and it will show up there too. you dont have to listen to them all, or even in order, but i suggest BOTH. to listen to the show on the computer via the links here, just click the link, and then click DOWNLOAD MP3. it will open up a new tab, you can pause, rewinde, and fast forward it at your leasure.
(hell, you can even torrent all his older episodes from day one if you want. its free and not everyone has lots of money, HE DOESNT EVEN MIND! how you get it is up to you.)
