Pretty straight forward. We know that we all have dreams, but why do we? Is there some specific evolutionary advantage, or is it something else?

Some theorize that dreams are your Subconsciousness gets to freely roam in your dreams, with ideas of how reality work. For example, we fly in our dreams but not without the feeling of flight. So we are aware that flight is happening. We all know we can't really fly around like superman, but since we have fallen, or jumped through the air or even been on a plane, our mind has access to the memory of that feeling and can recreate it freely in your dreams. (one theory)
Another is that REM sleep is actually a time when your mind is (most active?) and archiving useful information and removing non essential information (still under HUGE debate)
Another is that it can be an instinctual reflex to dream of situations that make you anxious, nervous or test your survival so that when you are awake and encounter those moments, you have been prepared.
What I like, is how Scientists haven't found a good reason for why we sleep in the first place.
